Choosing a water tank for a Whitsundays property

Start with what the water is for

A rainwater tank collects water off the roof through the gutters and downpipes, so it needs strainer baskets on top. A stockwater tank fills from a bore, pump or poly line and feeds troughs through a float valve. Gough makes every big tank in both setups, and Hank's Equipment Hire will match the setup to how your tank gets filled.

Then measure the spot

Measure the width, length and height of the space, and the height under your gutters. A round tank holds the most water for the price. A slimline tank fits down the side of a house or along a fence where a round tank won't. A tall tank holds more on a small footprint, and a squat tank sits low under decks and eaves.

Size it for the dry season

The Whitsundays gets most of its rain in the summer wet season, then very little through the dry months. A bigger water tank stores more of that wet season rain for later in the year.
